The Puck App Goaltending Camp run by Byron Spriggs Goaltender Development has been designed to help adult goalies learn and implement new techniques into their game. We all know that goaltending is one of the hardest position in sports, and we’re looking at making it just a little bit easier.
The camp will run throughout a full afternoon and focus on goaltending basics such as positioning, tracking, mobility (feet and knees), post work and puck handling. After a stretch and mobility warmup, there will 5 stations that goalies will work through, touching on the various keys mentioned previously.
After the skate, our goaltender specific Strength and Conditioning coach, will run the goalies through an off ice session. It will focus on exercises that they can do on their own, before and after skates, to improve flexibility, and injury prevention in the knees and hips.
For the past 18 years, Byron has been working his way up through the hockey goalie levels – from high school hockey to Winnipeg Blues junior hockey to the University of Manitoba Bisons. He is currently finishing his 5th year with the Bisons, and has plans to continue playing in the European league next year. In 2017, Byron had the opportunity to be called up for two AHL games to play alongside the Manitoba Moose and the Charlotte Checkers. He is also a part of the Emergency Backup Goalie program for the Winnipeg Jets (NHL).
In 2017, Byron’s passion for goaltending led him to begin his own company ‘Byron Spriggs Goaltender Development’, based out of Winnipeg. During the summer, Byron runs goalie-specific training camps and programs for goalies of all ages and skill levels. Throughout the hockey season, he works with teams from A1-AAA, and focuses on in-season skill development.
Helping Byron run the camp will be his 2 Bison goalie partners, Dasan Sydora and Justin Paulic. They are both experienced goalie coaches in the Winnipeg area with a thorough understanding of the position and the keys to development.
